- not too many people seemed to care
- cashier visibly noticed but did not say anything
- friends noticed and asked about it, had to explain I was not sick so they felt comfortable
- besides that, no one else seemed to notice
Tupper Room 204: 3:05 PM-4:25 PM on Wednesday the 1st
- professor noticed, was expecting her to ask about it as she has in the past but did not this time
- others did not care
Board of Elections: 4:45 PM-5:00 PM on Wednesday the 1st
- everyone I spoke to noticed, many COVID safety measures still in place there
- one person I spoke to also had a mask on

- was here for group project
- felt need to announce I was not sick when took mask off to drink drink, felt uncomfortable otherwise
CVS 5:30 PM-6:00 PM on Friday the 27th
- maybe the most amount of looks here
- many people noticed
- possibly because CVS is a health space, mask=unhealthy
- didn’t feel necessarily uncomfortable but was weird getting looks from multiple people
O’Bettys 5:00 PM-5:15 PM on Monday the 30th
- no one was here besides people working, wonder if would have gotten more looks considering how small of a space it is
- people working did not seem to care
Sawyer:
I saw lots of people looking at my mask and they looked confused or curious. I also wore my mask to math class, Spanish class, sexual revolutions class, CVS, Court Street, College Green, South Green, and Baker. I went to all of these places on October 31st. No one came up to me individually and asked me why I was wearing one or came up to us as a group when we were together. I will say when I was by myself, I got more looks than I did when we were all together. Also, when I was alone, I was more anxious and thought more about what people thought about me wearing a mask and why and what that meant to them.
Raina:
I wore my mask at my job, Brennen's, in my ASL class, to a doctor's appointment, to the mechanic while I got an oil change, the grocery store, the library, and while walking to classes. Throughout most of the places I was in, I felt a little weird and out of place because I was usually the only person around me wearing one. While at my job, a few different people asked me why I was wearing a mask or if I was sick. I felt kind of bad when I was working because I didn't want people to think I was sick at work, handling their drinks and things. During my appointment that I wore a mask to, I took it off halfway through, and my doctor looked confused as to why I had taken it off if I was sick. It was interesting because if you're wearing one, people automatically think that you're sick and you need to keep it on. I didn't experience many outright reactions at the mechanic, grocery store, library, walking to class, or Brennen's. I noticed that many people interacting with me definitely looked at and recognized the mask and they were talking louder or looking at me more intently to maybe try and read my expressions better.

Evolution of Media class:
- Not many looks in this class, but I was asked by two of my friends in this class about wearing it because I usually don't wear one. I think they thought I might've been sick or exposed to COVID recently.
Outside:
- This is where I noticed the most looks. I feel like it was because of the general knowledge that masks are not really useful outside because the spread of COVID-19 is very minimal in outside spaces. Quite a few people gave me and Raina funny looks and would physically move in different directions to avoid us being more distant. I also feel like the addition of two people together wearing masks was alarming in a sense.
Advising Appointment:
- This is where I felt the most accommodation out of all the spaces I went to. My Advisor has for the entirety of my time here at OU requested that masks be present during in-person meetings and just recently stopped requesting this. While I didn't have to wear a mask in there, I felt very safe and understood whatever my personal motivations were for wearing one. He sat a bit farther away from me, and knowing the history of him and his mask usage, I knew it came from a place of respect rather than a place of being treated differently.
Pokemon Go:
- I know this is a weird one for obvious reasons, but this is my avatar in the game Pokemon Go. My character has always worn a face mask in the game and the cosmetic was given out to players during the COVID era as a type of support and acknowledgment of current events. While this is not in real life, I feel like it still applies to a degree in real life because of how vital it is to interact with real people around you in your real physical space. Even wearing a mask in the game carries the same political and social message and stance as in real life.
Alden Library:
- When I was studying in Alden Library, there wasn't anyone around me so I didn't really feel much of a reaction or difference while wearing one. Everyone I noticed was so focused on their own task that I felt that there was no real acknowledgment of my mask.
Anthropology Lab:
- I was the only person wearing a mask in this lab and my professor acknowledged it in passing, and was very goofy about it. Because of this response, I felt pretty okay about wearing one and felt comfortable. There were a few classmates of mine that I could tell it was a bit odd for them to see someone wearing a mask, I could pick up on them being people who believe we are over the pandemic and feel the usage of masks unnecessary.
Jeff Market:
- This was the only other place where I noticed multiple people wearing masks that were not a part of my group. They were mainly employees of Jeff, and I feel like that was mainly because they work in a high foot traffic environment, and they are probably some of the most at-risk people on campus. I felt pretty calm and welcome there, not many weird looks or different treatment.
Study Group:
- This was with my fellow group members while we were finalizing our project. I was very comfortable and felt to type of different treatment because of our shared experience with masks for this assignment. It was to the point where I even forgot I had a mask on because of the non-acknowledgment of my mask.
